This photograph was taken by Long during a trip from Bristol to St Martin’s and records his movement across a field in Wiltshire, as he walked back and forth along a linear trajectory. It permanently captures the ephemeral trace of the artist's tracks. Long’s intervention was created in the context of the Land Art movement, which emerged in the 1960s, aiming to highlight the natural world as both artistic medium and subject. This work invites questions around the traces that we leave behind on our environments.
