The End, (2020)
Heather Phillipson
The enticing appearance of the monumental swirl of cream in this sculpture, studded with a red shiny cherry, is undermined by the presence of a black drone and fly. The drone streams live content from London’s Trafalgar Square to a dedicated website, www.theend.today. The sculpture’s juxtaposing elements allude to one of the covert sides of the internet, highlighting the often hidden nature of mass surveillance. It explores the moral boundaries between what we consider to be our private activities and the tracking and monitoring of our movements in the public domain.
