After visiting Stonehenge in 1921, Henry Moore became fascinated with the idea of sculpture that could be inhabited or passed through. Though The Arch directly references the post-and-lintel structures from Stonehenge, Moore gives the form a bone-like appearance. In its current location in Hyde Park, visitors are unable to physically walk through the sculpture. However, The Arch successfully offers a structure that frames the Serpentine Gallery and Kensington Palace in the distance.
